NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards

NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards

On Monday, September 9, Kelly “Nan” Pipe and Suzy Leslie attended the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards ceremony. Kelly has been volunteering at Stanmore Public School for 32 years, and was nominated by the P&C. Whilst, Suzy has been volunteering for Primary Ethics since 2011.

“Volunteers from across Sydney’s Inner West were recognised for their outstanding contribution to volunteering at a special ceremony in Burwood. The NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards is an annual program run by The Centre for Volunteering which has grown to become one of the largest celebrations of volunteering across the country.”

Jenny Leong, Jo Haylen (Shadow Minister for Seniors and Volunteers) and Jodi McKay addressed the volunteers and thanked them for their contribution. There was a huge range of local volunteers celebrated at this event - from Scouts, Guide Dogs, St John’s Ambulance, Rowing, and the Asylum Seeker Centre.

There are many opportunities for parents and community members to volunteer at Stanmore Public School. Whether that be reading, helping with lost property and PLUS, organising Showcase costumes, helping at the Canteen, sizzling at a BBQ, baking yummy things, organising P&C events or participating on a P&C subcommittee. There is something for everyone to get involved with.

Volunteering at school has been shown to correlate with better outcomes for children across many measures, support the teachers and lead to better wellbeing for you.

Stanmore P&C would like to thank all past and present volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you.

Become an Ethics Teacher

The Stanmore Ethics team is currently looking for a volunteer to teach year 2 ethics, and will need more volunteers for 2020 to continue the current classes.

Teaching ethics is an interesting and rewarding experience, with high quality training and support available from Primary Ethics. Thank you to the current eight ethics teachers who make a valuable contribution, and to the former Ethics Coordinator, Talis, for growing the program.
